Headaches toady is one of the most commonly faced health issues that is faced by a majority of people at one time or another.

Headaches can actually be classified into 3 categories: cluster headaches, tension headaches, and migraine headaches.

Many causes are there which contribute to causing a headache.   1. Ginger

  1. Peppermint Oil

Like mint, peppermint contains menthol that opens your clogged blood vessels that cause frequent headaches. Due to its calming and soothing effects, it also relieves stress, one of the major causes of frequent headaches. Add 3 drops of peppermint oil to water and massage your temples and forehead with it. Alternatively, you can also add a few drops of peppermint oil to a pot of boiling water and inhale the vapor to relieve a headache.

  1. Basil

Basil acts as a muscle relaxant which makes it an excellent treatment for mild headaches caused by tensed muscles. It also contains analgesic and soothing effects that ease stress. Prepare basil tea by adding a few basil leaves to boiling water and allow it to simmer for 5-10 minutes. You can also add a little honey to enhance the flavor. Strain the tea and sip slowly.

Alternatively, you can also add a few drops of basil essential oil to hot water and whiff the steam to relieve headaches. You can also chew some fresh basil leaves if you aren’t able to prepare tea or create basil steam.

  1. Lavender Oil

Simply inhaling the soothing aroma of lavender essential oil can relieve tension and hence the headaches. A few researches suggest that it can also ease and improve migraine symptoms. Put a few drops of lavender essential oil on a tissue or your handkerchief and inhale it. You can also add the drops of lavender essential oil to boiling water and inhale the smell.

  1. Ashwagandha:
  • Prepare a tea by boiling Ashwagandha powder in water for 10 minutes. Drink 1 or 2 cups a day.
  • You can consume Ashwagandha root powder along with one glass of hot milk before going to bed.


  1. Triphala:
  • You can stir one teaspoon of triphala choorna or powder into warm water. Drink the liquid throughout the day in between meals.
  • Triphala can be taken in the form of tablets or capsules one to three doses a day.


  1. Indian Gooseberry (Amla):
  • Mix one tbsp of amla juice and one tbsp of honey and drink it in the morning on an empty stomach.
  • Alternatively, you can include amla in your diet.


  1. Fenugreek Seeds:
  • Boil some fenugreek seeds with water and cool the mixture. Blend it into a paste and consume it twice a day.
  • Pour hot water over some fenugreek seeds and let it steep. Strain the liquid and drink this tea for about a month.


  1. Honey:
  • Take 1 tsp honey, 1 tsp ginger juice and 2 tsp cumin powder and mix them in a bowl. Take this mixture and eat it twice a day.
  • Eat raw and organic honey on an empty stomach in the morning.


  1. Jatamansi:
  • It can be taken in the form of a powder with water, about half a gram twice in a day. Drink it 2 hours after food or before sleep
  • Jatamansi root extract can be taken with water two times in a day.


  1. Arjuna:
  • Mix 2-3 grams of arjuna powder with a glass of water, and drink it daily for 2 months.
  • Process a bark of Arjuna with milk and prepare a tonic.
